I want a DSLR but can't decide any help?

I have used many before but I have not owned one myself. Im looking for vibrant colors, shake stabilization, and under 500 dollars. I have been aiming towards the Nikon D3000 because I have found it for under 500 and I have been told Nikons have great colors and that it has a shake stabilization. I want to know if Im making a wise decision in buying the D3000 or if I should buy something else such as the Sony A230 or the Nikon D40, also if someone can find the Canon Rebel Xs for under 500 and I don't mean 499.99 I mean under that too then I will get that because I love the Rebel Xs.
