Why is it after everyone has seen the baby they lose interest?

When I had my baby there was a que of people wanting to see her - people who I hadn't see for years would text constantly asking when they could come. Now everyone has seen her - that's it! Everyone has lost interest and gone back into the woodwork. Why do people do this? Its now more than ever that I have settled into a routine with the baby that I would appreciate some company.
