Why does God encourage then ask us to abandon rational thought?

This world is set up so that rational thinking reigns in the vast majority of situations, and all of us rely on rational thought to some extent. We all seek out patterns in the world and form predictions based on them. Granted there are many people who readily abandon rational thought. Some people play the lottery and expect to win one day. Some people believe they or others have psychic powers. Some people believe aliens are not only visiting earth, but are abducting people. Most of us doubt these people are right, though. This is because we have held onto the most important value of rational thought. Skepticism. Until these people can offer concrete evidence their claims are correct, we will not believe them. God also offers no concrete evidence for his existence (except possibly concrete if you are a creationist and want to be overly literal). God instead asks us to believe on faith alone. God asks us to abandon skepticism and with it, rational thought even though everything we experience tells us rational thought is by far the most likely form of thought to be correct. To believe in God as the creator, is to believe God formed this world in which rational thought reigns. Why would God be so hypocritical? Why would God want us to think rationally at all times except for when it comes to God?
